The Diary of a Young Girl By: Ryann Linthicum

Anne Frank The Diary of a Young Girl
By: Ryann Linthicum

How do you think it would feel being a thirteen year old girl in the middle of the huge World War Two? This is what a young girl has to go through during this time and takes the time to write down her experiences with it. The book begins where there is a war between the Germans and the Jews where a bad man is the ruler and takes all of the Jews away to camps and jails to kill them. Also each Jew has to wear a bright yellow Jewish star that differs them from all of the other people. The book is about a thirteen year old girl living with her mother, father, and sister. Her name is Anne Frank and she she gets a diary from her mother and she writes in it about her feelings and what is going on during the war.

In the beginning of the book the war between the Germans and the Jews has not gotten so bad. Anne goes to school and everything seems fine. But is it really? Meanwhile more and more people start to become taken away and they are making stricter rules on the Jews such as curfew. This scares Anne's family so they decide that they should leave their home and go into hiding before they get discovered. So, they go away to this place for hiding, where their 5 people family, the Van Daans, and then later on a man named Albert Dussel comes to live with them. This is a big change for all of them, they must stay quiet and unseen until the war dies down. This could take weeks, months, or even years in hiding.

Anne lives here and mostly goes deranged all day between staying quiet and unseen. She also has to deal with the Van Daans, who just bug her all day and really get on her nerves. She then comes to her diary and lets out all of her emotions and feelings in her diary, that she calls Kitty. She loves to read and works very hard on all of her studies. She is a very polite, well-mannered girl that has to survive in the middle of this war. But can her family do it without getting caught or seen?

At the hiding place Anne feels trapped between the Van Daans and now Albert with their rules and their different opinions of manners. Anne feels that he is getting in the way of everything and everyone and she feels as though she does not fit in. She wants just to be like all of them and to help. Now that Anne has become near-sited she has to stop doing her studies because she cannot get glasses that means that now she has even more time on her hands. The war is now getting worse and all Anne wants to do is to go back to school again. She is sad and wantes friends to play with, she will just have to wait until the war is over. But will she be able to?
